Observation Notes

Sunsets in the Atacama deserts are absolutely spectacular. And that’s particularly true for the platform of the Very Large Telescope (VLT) on Paranal. Towards the East on has a fantastic view on Armazones and the ELT in construction on its top, some 40km away. At this time of the year, at sunset the Paranal shadow falls on the ELT size, which resulted in this animation (about 30 min, 1 frame taken every 6 seconds)
