NGC772 aka Arp 78 – the Fiddlehead Galaxy

Observation Notes

NGC 772, also known as Arp 78, is a large spiral galaxy located about 130 million light-years away in the constellation Aries. Its most striking feature is a prominent, elongated spiral arm that gives the galaxy a distinctly asymmetric appearance. This unusual structure is thought to have been shaped by gravitational interaction with its smaller companion galaxy, NGC 770, visible nearby at about 11h30 from the center of NGC772.
