NGC4051 – a Seyfert 1.5 galaxy in Ursa Major
About the Object
NGC 4051 is a fascinating barred spiral galaxy located about 33 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major. Classified as a Seyfert type 1.5 active galaxy, the galaxy exhibits a complex inner structure with asymmetric spiral arms, dust lanes, and widespread regions of star formation visible as faint pink HII knots embedded throughout the disk. NGC 4051 belongs to the Ursa Major galaxy group and is considered one of the nearest and best-studied active galactic nuclei in the X-ray sky. So it is both, an astrophysically relevant object and an excellent, visually intriguing target for deep-sky imaging.
