NGC2782 a.k.a. Arp 215 – a rarely imaged merger remnant in the constellation Lynx
About the Object
NGC2782, also object 215 in Chip Arp's famous catalog of peculiar galaxies, is a rarely imaged galaxy on astrobin. I only could find a few higher resolution picture - and none going very deep (i.e. showing the very faint tidal debris at 8' clock). Same on the internet in general. But it is a beautiful example of the left over of a merging between two larger galaxies, full of tidal features, shells and so on. So it definitely was worth spending a bit more time on this beauty - hope you like it! The object is some 75 Mly away from us and has a diameter of about 100 000 ly. NGC 2782 features a AGN at its center and a star burst in the circumnuclear region. Also the tidal tails exhibit some star formation activity.
Observation Notes
Data were taken on 2023 Nov 21, Dec 17 and 2024 Jan 7,8,9, and 10.
