NGC 6229 – another less known globular cluster in Hercules
About the Object
NGC 6229 is a globular cluster located in the constellation Hercules, in the shadow of its famous brothers M13 and M92. NGC 6229 is located at a distance of about 100,000 light years. It is an intermediate-metallicity globular cluster with two distinct generations of stars. Compared to its famous Messier brothers, NGC6229 is considerably smaller and fainter, but still bright enough to make it a good target for short northern summer nights with the highly illuminated moon low on the horizon.
