About the Object

Messier 92, a.k.a. NGC 6431, is a bright globular cluster in the constellation of Hercules. It is only slightly less bright than the famous M13, though less extended. It is one of the oldest globular clusters and features a fairly low metal content, about 0.5% of that of the Sun.

Alternative designations

M 92, NGC 6341

Observation Notes

At high northern latitudes, M92 is a good second half of the night object when approaching full moon, when the late spring Moon is already low on the horizon, but conditions are good, like the last couple of days when the seeing at my place was regularly below 2" and for extended times even around 1.5".

Data were taken on 2025 May 1,2,6,8, and 10
