IC356 a.k.a. Arp 213 – another hidden galaxy

About the Object

IC 356 is a Sb type galaxy in the constellation  Camelopardalis. It probably is one of the better examples of a disk rather than a spiral galaxy, featuring only a very weak spiral pattern mainly visible in the dark molecular clouds. Chip Arp lists it as object 213 in his famous catalogue of peculiar galaxies in the category "irregularities,absorption, and resolution".

While IC 356 is of decent size, only a few images can be found on astrobin. Like its cousin IC342, the hidden galaxy, it is highly obscured by dust, but more yellowish while IC342 shows more redish/magenta colors.

Observation Notes

Data were taken on 2024 Jan 20, 25, and on March 8, 9, and 11.
