IC284 and friends – rarely seen on astrobin
About the Object
Another image of the insane focal length department - IC284. This Sd spiral in the constellation of Perseus is located some 127 Mly away and is of considereble size - about 120 000 ly. Right next to it, with the appearence of a transparent satellite galaxy is PGC 11646, but this galaxy is at an about 3 times larger distance, and thus even larger than IC284, namely some 170 000 ly. Together they make a very appealing apparent pair of galaxies (zoom in: revision C)! Nevertheless only few resolved images can be found on astrobin. Further galaxies in the field (full frame, revision D) include NGC 1175 and 1177, IC288 and PFG11669, and a considerable number of smaller background galaxies as well as some Galactic cirrus.
