About the Object

The open cluster IC1396 in the constellation Cepheus and its associated emission nebula a.k.a. Elephant's trunk nebula is a very frequent target for astrophotographers, usually with a wider field of view and often in narrow band using the HOO or SHO palette. While I certainly see the rational behind SHO (making structures in the object visible), I have to admit that I never really got friend with SHO - Halpha is pinkish red, and not salmon-orange or even green. So I gave it a shot in LRGB with long focal length - and I find the multitude of colors combined with the structures in the nebula actually to be quite appealing.
