IC10 – an actively star forming irregular dwarf galaxy in Cassiopeia
About the Object
IC10 is a dwarf irregular galaxy in the constellation of Cassiopeia. At 2.5MLy, it is a member of the Local Group and at a distance comparable to that of the Andromeda galaxy. IC10 is thus a member of the Andromeda subgroup (unlike the Magellanic Clouds which are members of the MW subgroup). IC10 is a star bursting galaxy and thus a good target for Ha narrowband observations. Indeed, the Ha data reveals quit a bit of complex structures!
