Arp 18 (a.k.a NGC 4088) and friends
About the Object
Arp 18 (a.k.a NGC4088) and its partner NGC 4085 are two galaxies where not too many images can be found on astrobin. Undeservingly so, as this galaxies feature quite a number of interesting details. One is an apparently detached segment of one of its spiral arms, which made Chip Arp to add it to his famous catalogue of peculiar galaxies. NGC 4088 and 4085 form a gravitationally bound pair and are part of the so-called M109 group. There are also quite a number of background galaxies in the image, e.g. PGC 38369, a very nice barred spiral, towards the lower left of Arp 18. A particular beauty is the interacting group around PGC 38438 and 38433 and co in the lower left corner!
Observation Notes
Data were taken on 2025 January 20 and 2025 February 1,3,4, and 5.
