Multiple Supernovae in NGC7331, comparing 2024 with SN2025rbs and SN2026aaiv

About the Object

NGC7331 and the associated Deer Lick group is not only one of the most prominent galaxy systems, it only hosted two supernovae within a bit more than a year, SN2025rbs in July 25 and SN2025aaiv in September 26.

Observation Notes

I had considerable amount of data on disk from 2023 and 2024, but could only get a few hours for the two supernovae owing to various constraints, mostly weather related. so I followed the same procedure as I used last year, I used a starless image of the Deer Lick group from 2023/24 and screened on the stars of the 2025 and 2026 image - including SN2025rbs & SN2026aaiv - thus getting the best of both worlds, a higher definition galaxy image and the supernovae.

Revision A: NGC 7331 with SN2026aaiv as of 10 September 2026

Revision B: NGC 7331 w/o supernova, image from 2023/2024

Revision C: NGC 7331 with the considerably fainter SN2025rbs as of 19 July 2025

Revision E&G: animation blinking between the various frames

Data were take in 2023 and 2024, for SN2025rbs on 19 July 2025 and for SN2026aaiv on 10 September 2026.
