The fetus nebula NGC7008 – an interesting planetary nebula in Cygnus
About the Object
NGC 7008, sometimes nicknamed the Fetus Nebula, is an evolved planetary nebula located about 2,800 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus. Unlike the nearly circular appearance of many planetary nebulae, NGC 7008 exhibits a fairly irregular, asymmetric structure shaped by interactions with the surrounding interstellar medium. Filaments, knots, and faint outer extensions reveal a complex history of stellar mass loss and make it one of the more interesting planetary nebulae in the northern sky.
