NGC6503, an active Sc galaxy in the Local Void

Galaxy · Draco

About the Object

NGC 6503 is a beautiful isolated active spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc. NGC6503 located about 16 million light-years away in the constellation Draco. It resides near the edge of the vast region known as the Local Void, an enormous bubble of space containing relatively few galaxies. Because of this unusual environment, NGC 6503 has evolved largely free from significant interactions with neighboring galaxies, making it an important laboratory for studying the internal dynamics and evolution of spiral galaxies in isolation.
